Hugh Dan MacLennan
Hugh Dan MacLennan was brought up in a Gaelic-speaking family in Lochaber, where he attended the high school. After graduating from Glasgow University he taught Gaelic in Inverness before going to work at BBC Radio nan Gaidheal. He spent a short time at the Press and Journal before turning freelance and working in various areas of the media and the Gaelic world. He has won a number of awards as a journalist and sports writer and is an expert on shinty, on which he has published a number of books. He as also written a history of the Ben Nevis Race. He has been, at various times, Secretary of the Gaelic Society of Inverness and of the Gaelic Language Promotion Trust, and Director and Vice President of the Camanachd Association. He is a member of the Sorley MacLean Trust. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Aberdeen in 1998, and from 2001 to 2008 he worked for Caledonian MacBrayne, most recently as Director of Communications. He has been a member of the Board of MG ALBA since April 2008 and is Chairman of the Quality and Standards Committee. |
