Standards Committee

The Committee is authorised by the Board to consider whether MG ALBA is delivering to persons living in Scotland a wide and diverse range of high quality programmes in Gaelic. The committee will also consider the performance of BBC ALBA and the impact of the whole of MG ALBA’s activities on Gaelic speakers, those learning the language, those that might wish to learn, and those interested in the language and culture. The Committee will advise the Board and make recommendations to the Board on the matters within its remit.

Establishment and Composition

  • Meet at least twice per year
  • Membership: as agreed by the Board
  • staff member will be the Secretary to the Committee.

Remit

The remit of the Standards Committee includes:

  • to advise the Board as to whether BBC ALBA is meeting the Board’s aims and objectives in relation to programme output and targets
  • to consider on behalf of the Board and to advise the Board on progress towards universal access to Gaelic audiovisual content in Scotland
  • to consider on behalf of the Board and to advise the Board on the linguistic, cultural and socio-economic impacts of MG ALBA’s disbursement of the Gaelic Television Fund
  • to consider on behalf of the Board and to advise the Board on MG ALBA’s brand presence and corporate identity
  • to make recommendations to the Board on genre and audience policies to be applied to disbursement of the Gaelic Television Fund
Reporting

The staff will circulate the minutes of the Committee to all members of MG ALBA.
