BBC ALBA – 2010 Learners/Gaelic Language Online Development Project

BBC ALBA is a BBC licensed television service managed in partnership by MG ALBA and the BBC. At this point, the MG ALBA/BBC partnership would welcome expressions of interest for the creation of a new website structure which will hold content for Gaelic Learners and for all those who want to improve their Gaelic. These expressions of interest should come from suitably qualified media production companies.

ONLINE COMMISSIONING ROUND PROCESS

1. Deadline for expressions of interest – July 6, 2010 at 1pm.
2. Short-listed companies only will be invited to briefing meetings during July/August
3. Deadline for final submissions from short-listed companies – September 15, 2010 at 1pm.
4. Deadline for MG ALBA/BBC partnership decisions – October 5, 2010.

 

1. EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

Expressions of interest are sought and will be used by the MG ALBA/BBC partnership to draw up a short-list of suitable media companies. They should include a brief company background, details of key company talent and expertise in delivering web-based resources in the Gaelic language. These expressions of interest should not exceed two A4 pages. Short-listed companies only will be invited to submit for the Learners/Gaelic Language Online Development Project.

2. LEARNERS/GAELIC LANGUAGE ONLINE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT OVERVIEW

• The project envisages the set-up of a viable web structure aiming to create a ‘one-stop content shop’ for Gaelic language tools
• The project envisages the population of the content site with existing resources arranged in a way that users can find what they want
• The project envisages the inception of core language tools including a standardised online dictionary
• This is an infrastructure development project and does not currently include content development

Short-listed companies only will be invited to briefing meetings with the MG ALBA/BBC partnership. These meetings may also be attended by other partners in this project, including Bòrd na Gàidhlig. Based on these briefings, submissions will be sought by the deadline of September 15.
