ONLINE VOTING BEGINS FOR YOUR FAVOURITE GAELIC SHORT FILM

MG ALBA’s Gaelic online media shorts competition, FilmG, has received an outstanding number of entries this year, all of which are now available to view online.

There’s something for everyone to enjoy from comedies to chilling ghost stories, action and adventure to animations, true stories to tall tales. We’ve got films from all over Scotland, Canada, the USA and even the Isle of Man.

All entries can be viewed online at www.filmg.co.uk where the public can vote for their favourite film until 15 January 2010. The entries will also be judged, throughout December, by executives of BBC ALBA and senior representatives of the Scottish broadcast industry including BBC Scotland director Bill MacLeod, STV producer Patsi MacKenzie and Scottish Screen Head of Talent, Carole Sheridan. The films short-listed in each category will be made public on the website from mid January.

The highest scoring film, voted for by the public, will be presented with the prestigious People’s Choice award at the FilmG awards ceremony on 5 February 2010 at Eden Court, Inverness.

This year’s theme was ‘Gaisgeach’ which translated to Hero, Warrior or Champion and prizes will be awarded within three film genres: Drama/Comedy, Factual and Entertainment.

Donald Campbell, Chief Executive of MG ALBA, said: “For the second year running our FilmG competition has proved an extremely popular and enjoyable initiative for Gaelic and non-Gaelic speakers alike, of all ages and backgrounds with a keen interest in telling stories on camera.

“It is very encouraging to have received so many new entrants to the competition as well as retaining participants from last year’s FilmG, all of whom have risen to the challenge. Our dedicated workshops in partnership with Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Taigh Chearsabhagh, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Glasgow University, University of the West of Scotland, with funding from the Highland Council and Bòrd na Gàidhlig, proved a real success. I am particularly impressed with the interest from school pupils as well as the level of creative talent out there.”

The second FilmG Awards ceremony will take place at Eden Court, Inverness on Friday 5 February 2010 with a night of celebrations including screenings of the winning films and live entertainment.
