BBC ALBA SCOOP AWARD ON FINAL DAY OF CELTIC MEDIA FESTIVAL
In the third round of awards at the Celtic Media Festival in Caernarfon, North Wales, it was announced today (Friday) that BBC ALBA, the new Gaelic channel has walked away with an award.
Today’s winning production was Dè a-nis? by BBC Gàidhlig for MG ALBA, which won in the Childrens category.
Marion McKinnon, Managing Editor of BBC Gàidhlig said: “This is wonderful news both for the team and our young loyal audience. This programme has developed a unique bond with the audience over 16 years. They take part in Dè a-nis? each week and this award will give us all a huge boost to continue delivering the best Gaelic childrens programmes.”
Donald Campbell, Chief Executive of MG ALBA said: “This is fantastic news for MG ALBA and our partners in BBC ALBA. MG ALBA has been working with the creative industry over many years and it is always encouraging to get industry recognition and in particular from an international media festival.”
"Dè a-Nis?" ("What Now?"), currently in its 16th series, is an hour long ‘as-live', studio based, Gaelic language programme for seven to 11 year olds. The programme airs on both BBC ALBA and BBC 2.
A total of 414 Award entries were received this year, with a shortlist comprising 21 entries each from Scotland and Wales, 20 from Ireland, four from Cornwall and three from Brittany.
The Celtic Media Festival is a celebration of broadcasting and film talent in the Celtic nations. Supported by broadcast, film, cultural and economic organisations, it provides a unique opportunity for those within the film and broadcasting community to network, exchange ideas, attend workshops and promote the richness and diversity of Celtic cultures today.
