WINNING FILM OF FILMG 2008 TO BE SHOWN AT INVERNESS FILM FESTIVAL
MG ALBA is delighted to announce that the winning FilmG 2008 short, Siubhlachan (The Traveller) will be screened during the ‘short cuts’ session of this week’s 7th Inverness Film Festival.
FilmG is MG ALBA’s Gaelic media shorts competition open to anyone over 12 without previous industry credits as a producer or director.
Since the FilmG 2008 awards ceremony, Siubhlachan has screened at film festivals in Switzerland, South Korea and Canada and will be shown during the festival’s ‘short cuts’ session on Saturday 14 November. Director Ùisdean Murray from North Uist has also developed a 30 minute pilot episode for the Gaelic Channel, BBC ALBA.
Siubhlachan - Filming at the Time Machine
Siubhlachan, an intriguing Gaelic short film, tells the poignant tale about a young girl, Seonag, who travels back in time to visit her recently deceased Grandfather.
The second FilmG awards ceremony will take place on Friday 5 February 2010 at Eden Court, Inverness. With the closing date for entries being Friday 20th November, there is still time for anyone wishing to submit a three to five minute short for the competition.
FilmG has a top prize of £3,000 for best drama/comedy. There are also cash prizes for the best interpretation of the competition theme, Gaisgeach (hero, champion or warrior), best performance, best director and many more.
A full list of prizes can be viewed on the FilmG website. This year a special category has been included for Best Entertainment short. A prize of £2,500 will be awarded to the short that best conveys fun and entertainment; this could be music, sport, a quiz show, a live performance or even a stand-up act. Winners in this category as well as the Best Director category will have access to MG ALBA’s new £10k development fund to help winners promote their work at festivals and events.
Last year’s ceremony turned out to be a hugely successful evening with special guest appearances from comedy star Greg Hemphill and live music from Glasgow and Skye based band Injuns. Details of this year’s line-up will be revealed shortly.
