Còcaire nan Còcairean

The fifth heat in the new cookery knockout competition, presented by Cathy MacDonald, will see another two new cooks vie to be crowned Còcaire nan Còcairean, in the culinary series on BBC ALBA.

In next week’s programme, broadcast on Monday 15th December, the temperature in the kitchen rises as two amateur chefs from the Isle of Lewis battle it with one hour to create a two-course dinner party for one.

Joan Chisholm will serve up Stornoway black pudding and stewed apple wrapped in a puff pastry parcel to start, followed by a main course of chicken in a white wine sauce with grapes, sweet potatoes, and a selection of fresh vegetables.

Donald Smith will make spicy mushroom soup for his first course followed by pan fried fillet of beef served with fried leeks, sweet potato mash and roasted asparagus tips.

Judging the competition is Alasdair MacLeod, an Executive Chef in the North Sea, Maureen MacLeod who was until recently proprietor of three island hotels and D K MacLean, head chef at a Highland restaurant.

The Còcaire nan Còcairean, will be awarded a Waterford Crystal Trophy and a trip to Cornwall where they will attend a four day course at Rick Stein’s Padstow Seafood School, one of the best cookery schools in Europe.

Còcaire nan Còcairean will be broadcast weekly on BBC ALBA every Monday at 20:30 and is available on Sky channel 168 & Freesat channel 110.
