A-reir na h-Aimsir
Tuesday 17 February,8.30pm, BBC ALBA
BBC ALBA is reawakening the nation’s love affair and obsession with the weather in an entertaining and ambitious exploration of our relationship with the elements.
A-reir na h-Aimsir, an eight part series, takes us on an adventure through the Western Isles exploring how the weather has shaped the people and geography of these islands and how our livelihoods – and indeed our lives – depend on it. We are on the frontline of the weather so understanding it is vital to our coastal community.

Each show explores a wealth of fascinating human stories through a mixture of expert comment, contemporary storytelling and computer-generated images whilst aerial shots showcase the beauty of the islands.
Forthcoming highlights from the series include:
Filmed in June and July 2007, A-reir na h-Aimsir captures the sublime beauty and serenity of one of the sunniest summers on record for the Western Isles. While the rest of the UK was being battered by rain and storms, the Western Isles enjoyed continued sunshine for a prolonged period.

Ishbel MacIver from madmac productions, who produced the series, said: “After filming this series I realise that every Gael is as obsessed with the weather as I am. Everyone has a great story to tell. The weather is by nature second hand – it was America’s yesterday, ours today and Norway’s tomorrow. So it puts us at the heart of a universal story and it’s a story we can share with the rest of the world.
“This series focuses on the Western Isles and we are amazed with the amount of stories we found. We hope that another series will be commissioned and this time we can go further afield to the mainland of Scotland!”
A-reir na h-Aimsir, presented by Angela Smith, is broadcast weekly on BBC ALBA every Tuesday at 20:30 and is available on Sky channel 168 & Freesat channel 110.
