CELTIC CONNECTIONS ON BBC ALBA
BBC ALBA will be broadcasting the second of its special programmes from this year’s Celtic Connections’ Jewels of the Ocean event on Saturday 30th January at 10pm.
The TV special will offer viewers the chance to enjoy the live sessions filmed at the Old Fruitmarket earlier this month, exploring the art of Gaelic song.
Jewels of the Ocean / Seudan a’ Chuain, provides a fantastic line-up of Scottish and Irish, solo and ensemble performers, headed by two uniquely influential groups, the 1970s band Na h-Òganaich and contemporary Celtic supergroup Capercaillie.

The popular all-male Na Seòid (Calum Alex MacMillan, Gillebride MacMillan, Angus MacPhail, James Graham, Norrie MacIver and Alasdair Whyte) showcase the best of today’s young male Gaelic talent, while featured individuals include Anne Lorne Gillies, Arthur Cormack, Mary Ann Kennedy, Griogair Labhruidh, Rona Lightfoot, Allan MacDonald and Kirsteen MacDonald, plus Ireland’s Mairéad Ní Mhaoinaigh (Altan) and Seamus Begley.
If you missed the first of BBC ALBA’s Jewels of the Ocean programmes it will be repeated on Friday 29th January at 10 pm.
The Celtic Connections ‘Jewels of the Ocean’ programmes form part of BBC ALBA and Radio nan Gàidheal’s ‘Year of Gaelic Song’ 2010, ‘Bliadhna nan Òran’.
Throughout the year an unparalleled line-up of programmes featuring a wealth of Gaelic singing talent both from the archives and newly produced programmes will be broadcast on Radio nan Gaidheal and BBC ALBA. A dedicated website at www.bbcalba.co.uk will also offer contextual information about the song writers and performers, song lyrics as well as audio and video of many of the BBC's archive recordings.
