KELVIN WILSON AND CARLOS BOCANEGRA SPEAK EXCLUSIVELY ON BBC ALBA’S ‘CLUB TV’
CLUB TV
BBC ALBA – Thursday 22nd September 21.00
A new series of CLUB TV returns to BBC ALBA with exclusive behind-the-scenes access at Celtic and Rangers, including interviews with new Hoops centre-half Kelvin Wilson and Gers’ defender Carlos Bocanegra, as well as managers Neil Lennon and Ally McCoist.
This week’s show, broadcast on Thursday 22nd September at 9pm, will hear from Kelvin Wilson on his introduction to the Scottish Premier League since his summer move to Celtic from English Championship side Nottingham Forest.
Defender Wilson also discusses settling into life at Celtic Park and says he has been made to feel at home. Wilson says: “I feel pretty comfortable with the lads. Obviously you’ll get better as time goes on because you’ll get to know them even more but in my time so far I feel I’ve gelled well with them.
“Ever since I’ve been here, the lads have been having banter but on the pitch, it’s serious. When we come off the pitch, if you’ve had an argument with another player about something then it is all solved and it’s not taken personally. Everyone is in the right frame of mind to win.
“I’ve been playing regularly and as a footballer, you want to play all the time. I’m finding Glasgow nice and I’m settling in really well. All the staff at Celtic, not just the management, have helped me loads. It is a massive thing coming to a new country - you know no one, you don’t know anywhere to go, you don’t know the streets. They’ve helped me settle into my new place and I feel like I’ve been here longer than I have so it has been really good.”
Also speaking to CLUB TV is Celtic manager Neil Lennon, who discusses the changes made to the Celtic squad during the summer months as well as the need for the East End club to balance the books in light of a smaller budget for the playing pool this season.
We also hear from American goalkeeper Dominic Cervi, who spills the beans on his teammates in this month’s ‘In the Dressing Room’ feature, whilst ex-Hoops defender John Kennedy sheds light on his new role coaching Celtic’s under-19 squad. CLUB TV also has a round-up of action, with all the goals from Celtic’s seven SPL games this season as well as a look at the latest highlights from the under-19s side.
Over at Rangers, CLUB TV speaks to new Rangers signing Carlos Bocanegra, who joined last month from French outfit St Etienne.
USA international captain Bocanegra tells CLUB TV why he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to move to the Ibrox side as well as his hopes for lifting silverware in the years ahead. The defender also discusses his defensive partnership with teammate Dorin Goian as well as the benefits he hopes the club will gain from him being able to play alongside international teammates Maurice Edu and Alejandro Bedoya.
New Rangers boss Ally McCoist also talks to CLUB TV about how he is enjoying life in the manager’s hotseat and his delight at his side’s 4-2 victory over Celtic last weekend. The Ibrox gaffer also talks about the club’s off-field problems and insists that it will not distract his players from their bid for their fourth successive league championship.
Rangers starlet Gregg Wylde also speaks to the show and reveals his career highlights so far in this month’s ‘My Greatest’ feature, whilst young midfielder Rhys McCabe explains what he’s doing to try and break into the first team this season.
As well as latest interviews, CLUB TV has action from all of Rangers SPL games this season, as well as a look at the under-19’s game against Hibernian last week.
CLUB TV is presented by former club players Tom Boyd and Arthur Numan respectively, along with Gaelic Sports anchor Calum Macaulay and is produced for BBC ALBA by mneTV. The show will be repeated on Saturday 24th September at 4.30pm.
