BBC ALBA – Thursday 24th February 21:00
CLUB TV returns to BBC ALBA with exclusive behind-the-scenes access at Celtic and Rangers, including interviews with Ally McCoist and Neil Lennon as well as Gers hitman David Healy and Hoops midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng.
This week’s show, broadcast on Thursday 24th February at 9pm, will hear from Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist in the wake of the announcement that he will become the club’s manager in the summer when Walter Smith steps down from the Ibrox hotseat.
McCoist talks candidly about what he’ll bring to the role of manager, the challenges he’ll face next season and the pressure he’ll be under to win trophies. He explains: “There’ll be sore defeats, there’ll be hopefully very pleasant victories, but the one thing I like to think I can guarantee to the players and indeed the fans is an honesty and a fairness.”
CLUB TV also catches up with striker David Healy - signed from Sunderland during the January transfer window- who explains what it means to him to join the SPL champions. Healy says: “It’s a dream come true to play for Rangers.
“To pull on the jersey, there’s no greater thrill for me knowing how many great players have been here before me.”
Also featured on the show is Northern Ireland internationalist Andrew Little, who talks about the best moments of his career so far during the ‘My Greatest’ feature, whilst youngster Stephen Stirling chats about his hopes for regular football on-loan at First Division side Stirling Albion.
Over at Celtic, manager Neil Lennon discusses his own contract situation as well his hope that he can fend off any big-money bids for his players. Lennon states: “We really want to build this team rather than dismantle it - any offers that do come will be rebuffed.”
The CLUB TV team also speak to Celtic’s young South Korean internationalist Ki Sung-Yueng, who gives his thoughts on the remainder of the campaign. He says: “We believe that from this season we can win this league. Also, because we failed to play in the Champions League, we have more time than Rangers, so I think everyone believes we can win the league.”
Meanwhile, Celtic youth James Keatings chats about his aim of making an impact on the first-team at Parkhead. The striker, who is the under-19s league’s top scorer, discusses his dream of following close friend James Forrest into the Celtic first XI. And CLUB TV also speaks to Welsh midfielder Joe Ledley who reveals some secrets from the Parkhead squad in this month’s ‘In the Dressing Room’ feature.
CLUB TV is presented by former club players Tom Boyd and Arthur Numan respectively, along with Gaelic Sports anchor Calum Macaulay and is produced for BBC ALBA by mneTV. The show will be repeated on Saturday 26th February at 12.10am.
