BBC ALBA’S MAGNERS LEAGUE COVERAGE CONTINUES WITH LIVE EDINBURGH & GLASGOW DOUBLE HEADER
Edinburgh v Munster
BBC ALBA – Friday 10th September 19:00
Newport Gwent Dragons v Glasgow
BBC ALBA – Sunday 12thSeptember 16:00
BBC ALBA’s rugby coverage returns this week with two live Magners League matches as Edinburgh host Munster and Glasgow travel to Newport Gwent Dragons.
Coverage of the Edinburgh match will begin this Friday at 7:00pm and will be presented by Gaelic sports anchor Calum Macaulay, with expert trackside analysis provided by Edinburgh captain Roddy Grant, who sits the game out due to injury. The match itself will begin at 7.05pm.
There will also be a package of half-time interviews, with scrum-half Mike Blair looking to the new season ahead after an injury-hit year and Scotland coach Andy Robinson giving his thoughts on the Autumn internationals ahead and the battle for the Scotland No 10 shirt.
Edinburgh began their Magners League campaign last week but slipped to a 34-23 defeat away to Cardiff Blues.
They’ll be looking to bounce back against Munster but the Irish side boast an excellent record in the capital having won five matches out of six on their visits to Murrayfield. Edinburgh’s only victory over Munster in their last seven meetings was a 12-7 win at Murrayfield in round six last season.
Meanwhile, coverage of the Glasgow match will begin at 4:00pm on Sunday with the game kicking-off at 4:10pm.
Joining the team in the studio for the game will be Glasgow and Scotland flanker John Barclay, who has started the new campaign on the sidelines due to injury.
Also featuring on the show will be a half-time interview with Scotland international Dan Parks, who will reflect on his summer move to Cardiff Blues from Glasgow.
Warriors were buoyed by last week’s excellent 22-19 win over Leinster and go into the game against the Dragons with a decent Magners League record at Rodney Parade, having won two of their last three league encounters at the ground.
The Dragons, who finished seventh in last year’s campaign, were beaten 40-17 away to Connacht in their first game of the campaign and will be hoping to make amends against Glasgow.
BBC ALBA has signed an exclusive deal to show live Magners League rugby in Scotland for the next four years. The channel is committed to showing at least eight Edinburgh or Glasgow home matches per season, and has teamed up with Irish, Welsh and Italian broadcasters to also provide live coverage of selected away matches for both sides.
