The audience at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls will celebrate in style as they welcome in the New Year with the very best in music, comedy and entertainment.

The ninety minute Hogmanay Show, Bliadhna Mhath Ùr will be presented by the inimitable duo of Tony Kearney and Morag MacDonald who will be in the best of company with a superb line-up of acclaimed Gaelic performers, including Argyllshire's own Karen Matheson and Donald Shaw.

Top folk band Daimh, two of the World’s top piper’s Angus MacColl and Stuart Liddell, this year’s Mod Gold Medallists, Darren MacLean and Sineag MacIntyre, as well as renowned Gaelic singer and song-writer Anne Lorne Gillies, will also be performing. And if that is not enough, there will be comedy with a special appearance from Gaeldom’s one and only Seasaidh Lexy.

Margaret Mary Murray, Head of BBC ALBA, said: “Following the success of our inaugural Hogmanay Show last year, we are very much looking forward to this year’s live show, Bliadhna Mhath Ùr, from Oban. We have a very impressive line-up with strong Argyll links which will offer a fantastic night of entertainment. We are delighted that for the first time ever Bliadhna Mhath Ùr will be seen on BBC ALBA and heard on Radio nan Gàidheal not only across Scotland and throughout the UK, but also via the internet worldwide. All in all it promises to be a night not to be missed.”

Karen Matheson said: “As BBC ALBA goes from strength to strength, Donald and I are delighted to be returning to Argyll and performing on home territory on this special night. With the assembled cast, it promises to be a memorable evening.”

Bliadhna Mhath Ùr is being produced for BBC ALBA by Bees Nees Media and will be transmitted on Thursday 31st December 2009 at 11.30pm with a live radio simulcast on Radio Nan Gàidheal. Bliadhna Mhath Ùr will have a repeat transmission on BBC ALBA on 1st January 2010 at 16.20pm.
