BBC ALBA’S MAGNERS LEAGUE COVERAGE CONTINUES WITH A LIVE GLASGOW & EDINBURGH DOUBLE HEADER
Ulster v Glasgow Warriors – Friday 1st October 19:00
Aironi v Edinburgh – Saturday 2nd October 18:00
BBC ALBA’s rugby coverage returns this week with two live Magners League matches as Glasgow travel to Ulster and Edinburgh make the trip to Italy to face Aironi.
Coverage of the Glasgow match will begin this Friday at 7:00pm and will be presented by Murray MacLeod, with expert studio analysis provided by Glasgow flanker James Eddie, who sits the game out due to injury. The match itself will begin at 7.05pm.
Glasgow go into the match with boasting a good record against Ulster, having won their two league encounters last season. The Warriors will also be hoping to continue their excellent form at Ravenhill, with three wins in their last four visits to Ulster’s ground.
As well as the live action, there will also be a package of half-time features and interviews including a chat with Scotland scrum-half Chris Cusiter as he played golf at Carnoustie to raise funds for the local rugby club.
We also speak to Glasgow player Duncan Weir, who scored 19 points last week’s 29-43 defeat to Munster at Firhill. The 19-year-old stand-off talks about what has inspired his career so far and what he would be doing if he wasn't playing professional rugby.
Meanwhile, coverage of the Edinburgh match will begin at 6:00pm on Saturday with the game kicking-off at 6:05pm.
Joining Murray MacLeod in the studio for the game will be Edinburgh and Scotland stand-off Phil Godman, who faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to knee ligament damage sustained in training last week.
Commentary for this match and the Glasgow game will be provided by Hugh Dan MacLennan alongside DJ MacIntyre.
Edinburgh will be buoyed by last week’s 32-24 win over Leinster, their first victory of the campaign. Their trip to the Stadio Zaffanella is Edinburgh’s first-ever match against an Italian side, and Aironi will be hoping to capitalise as they also look for their first Magners League victory.
During the programme we will speak to Bob Burrell, the former international rugby referee and grandfather of Edinburgh captain Roddy Grant. At 87, Bob still goes to as many rugby games as he can and we accompanied him to watch Edinburgh's match against Leinster, as well as talk about his own rugby career with Gala and his insight on watching his grandson captain the Edinburgh team.
In a Q+A feature, we speak to capped Edinburgh prop Kyle Traynor whilst we also take time out to learn about new boys Aironi as they embark on their debut season in the Magners League.
BBC ALBA has signed an exclusive deal to show live Magners League rugby in Scotland for the next four years. The channel is committed to showing at least eight Edinburgh or Glasgow home matches per season, and has teamed up with Irish, Welsh and Italian broadcasters to also provide live coverage of selected away matches for both sides.
