SATURDAY’S MARINE HARVEST CLASH OF THE CAMANS FINAL TO BE TELEVISED LIVE ON BBC ALBA
BBC ALBA’s package of live shinty games continues this Saturday, 20 June with coverage of the Marine Harvest Clash of the Camans Final live from An Aird, Fort William.
The final of the cup competition will be broadcast at 5.30pm on BBC ALBA, which is available on Sky channel 168 and on Freesat channel 110.
Half time features will include an in-depth interview with Gary Innes who takes us behind the scenes in his busy life as shinty player, musician, paramedic and firefighter.
BBC ALBA’s sports team will also join MacTavish Cup Winners Newtonmore, taking a look back at the best of the action as well featuring interviews with manager Norman MacArthur, captain David Cheyne and Newtonmore fan and musician Davy Holt.
Gary Innes will also be taking Cailean Collier through his paces in lesson two of his ‘Shinty Skills’, this week demonstrating the all important skill of blocking.
The semi finals of the cup will take place throughout the day with Glenurquhart taking on Inveraray at 1.20pm and in the second semi final, Fort William will take on Kingussie at 2pm.
A full day of shinty entertainment is being provided with the plate semi finals and final being decided as well as the primary school’s competition and ladies match between Glengarry and Tir Conal Harps.
Hugh Dan MacLennan, sports broadcaster and former shinty player, will be commentating on Saturday’s match live for BBC ALBA along with Calum MacAulay.
Hugh Dan said: “This is the first time that the Marine Harvest competition has used this format and it will present everyone with a new set of challenges. The winners will have to be at their best all day long. The festival of shinty should produce a fitting climax for the television cameras to capture the final. If the match goes only part of the way to providing the superb entertainment everyone had in last week’s first broadcast of the season from the MacTavish Cup Final, then we are in for another treat. It was a great start and let’s hope we can all repeat it this weekend and in the coming weeks.”
BBC ALBA is a partnership service between BBC Scotland and MG ALBA.
