GLASGOW WARRIORS V NEWPORT GWENT DRAGONS MAGNERS LEAGUE CLASH LIVE ON BBC ALBA
Glasgow Warriors v Newport Gwent Dragons
BBC ALBA – Friday 25th February 19:45
Live Magners League rugby coverage continues on BBC ALBA this weekend as Glasgow Warriors host Newport Gwent Dragons at Firhill Stadium.
Coverage of the match will begin this Friday at 7.45pm and will be presented by Calum MacAuley with expert trackside analysis from Scotland and Glasgow Warriors scrum half Chris Cusiter. The match itself will begin at 7.50pm, with commentary courtesy of Derek MacKay.
Glasgow will be hoping to end their run of four league defeats and secure their first win since beating Edinburgh in the first leg of the 1872 Cup in late December.
However, Warriors will be facing an in-form Dragons side who under caretaker coach Darren Edwards have enjoyed their best league run since the 2004/2005 season with three wins in succession, which has seen them rise to seventh in the table.
The last match between the sides was in September at Rodney Parade, with Dragons securing a 23-11 win through points from Aled Brew, Robin Sowden-Taylor, Jason Tovey and Matthew Jones. Glasgow’s scoring came courtesy of a Richie Gray try and two penalties from the boot of Ruaridh Jackson.
As well as the live action, there will also be half-time features and interviews including a chat with Warriors fly-half Duncan Weir. The 19 year old, who has been vying with Ruaridh Jackson for the Glasgow number 10 shirt, speaks about his rugby career as well as his switch from playing football at youth level for Kilmarnock, where he played alongside Rangers starlet Jamie Ness and new Celtic sensation James Forrest.
BBC ALBA has signed an exclusive deal to show live Magners League rugby in Scotland until the 2013/14 season. The channel is committed to showing at least eight Edinburgh or Glasgow home matches per season, and has teamed up with Irish and Welsh broadcasters to also provide live coverage of selected away matches for both sides.
