PRODUCER OF THE INBETWEENERS MOVIE FEATURES IN BBC ALBA DOCUMENTARY
TRUSADH : SLIGHE DHAN FHÀSAICH / INTO THE WILD
Monday 5 December at 9pm on BBC ALBA
With the current worldwide population shift towards an urbanised existence, the benefits of getting back in touch with the natural landscape, and the lure of these wild remote places has never been greater. For some, living far from the comforts of the modern world has become a regular way of life, as we discover in a new compelling BBC ALBA documentary.

In ‘Slighe dhan Fhàsaich / Into the Wild’, we join Skye based TV & film producer, Chris Young, producer of the hit comedy, ‘The Inbetweeners Movie’, as he escapes his busy London life to join his artist wife, Julie Brook and their family on the beautiful, remote and uninhabited island of Mingulay, south of Barra, which they regularly visit each summer.
Julie Brook first visited Mingulay, 16 years ago, and used it as a source of quiet, solitary inspiration in order to paint and create sculptures inspired by and utilizing the wild landscape. Getting back to nature, is something that all the family now experience and enjoy the many benefits of. Julie comments: “My mind wanders to a different place where I’m more alert. Gradually I start to feel more open-minded.”
For Chris, the few days he manages to spend on the island are a welcome escape from his busy schedule. Chris said: “I’m very happy to be here. There’s a huge contrast between my family life and my professional life, and it’s difficult to stop and take a break.”
We also meet an aspiring wildlife photographer and travel writer, Jim Manthorpe, living in remote Knoydart; a city based guidebook writer, Phil Turner, who’s aim is to get people out to wild places; two sisters from Skye, Lorna MacKinnon and Fiona Weir, who have set up a wilderness boot camp; and Christine Stewart and members of the Stornoway Canoe Club as they explore the rugged Lewis coastline and camp out on one of its many offshore islands.
In following these people who have embraced some of Scotland’s wild lands, the programme will examine whether there’s a true wilderness left in an age where humans have impacted on so much of the landscape.
Produced by MacTV for BBC ALBA ‘Trusadh: Slighe dhan Fhàsaich / Into the Wild’ will be broadcast on Monday 5 December at 9pm.
