FIRST BILINGUAL CHART SHOW IN ENGLISH AND GAELIC TO BE BROADCAST ON MORAY FIRTH RADIO

The first ever bilingual Scottish Charts Show on commercial radio to be broadcast in both English and Gaelic will go live this weekend, as a result of a collaboration between MG ALBA, the Gaelic Media Service and Inverness based Moray Firth Radio (MFR).

The local commercial radio station covers the largest geographical area in mainland UK and includes the Highlands, Moray and parts of Aberdeenshire. MFR will also produce the Scottish Chart for a number of other commercial stations out with Moray Firth Radio’s own area.

The award winning radio station’s chart will showcase current hit songs but will also be forging an important link with the Gaelic language. The presenters of the new show, Davey D and Roya McLean a Gaelic speaker will host their show from this Saturday between 6pm and 8pm.

Danny Gallagher, Managing Director at MFR said: “I think it’s really important that we engage with a number of partners for specific ventures and MG ALBA have been very supportive of our production values on this project. We are really excited about leading the way in pioneering radio shows.”

Donald Campbell, Chief Executive of MG ALBA, said: “This is another fantastic step forward for Gaelic broadcasting. We have been delighted to support the Moray Firth Media Trust in previous years and it's pleasing to see that work lead to this new initiative. We would like to praise Moray Firth Radio for working effortlessly with us in order to bring the first ever bilingual Scottish Charts in English and Gaelic to the audiences across the Highlands, Moray and Aberdeenshire.

“MFR delivers high quality radio content to a diverse and widespread audience and the support for the Gaelic language through such an initiative is greatly encouraging, particularly when the new show will be reaching out to a youthful audience who may not have been immersed in Gaelic on radio.”

MFR is available on 97.4FM, 1107AM, DAB digital radio, smart-phone Apps as well as via the listen live function available online at www.mfr.co.uk.

A’ CHIAD PHRÒGRAM DE DH’ÒRAIN A THA SNA CLÀIR RI CHLUINNTINN AIR RÈIDIO LINNE MHOIREIBH (MFR) ANN AM BEURLA AGUS SA GHÀIDHLIG

Cluinnear prògram rèidio de dh’òrain a tha sna clàir anns am bithear a’ cleachdadh na Beurla agus na Gàidhlig air an deireadh sheachdain seo. Is e seo a’ chiad uair a riamh a chaidh a leithid seo a choladh air stèisean rèidio malairteach agus thachair e mar thoradh air com-pàirteachas eadar MG ALBA, Seirbheis nam Meadhanan Gàidhlig agus Rèidio Linne Mhoireibh (MFR) a tha stèidhichte ann an Inbhir Nis.

Tha an stèisean rèidio ionadail malairteach a’ craoladh thar na sgìre as motha air tìr mòr na Rìoghachd Aonaichte a tha a’ gabhail a-steach a’ Ghàidhealtachd, Moireibh agus ceàrnaidhean de Shiorrachd Obar Dheathain. Ullaichidh MFR an Clàr Albannach cuideachd airson grunnan stèisean malairteach a tha taobh a-muigh sgìre Rèidio Linne Mhoireibh fhèin.

Cuiridh clàr na stèisean rèidio a tha air duaisean fhaighinn a-cheana òrain a tha an-dràsta sna clàir fa chomhair dhaoine agus stèidhichidh e cuideachd ceangal làidir ris a’ Ghàidhlig. Bidh riochdairean a’ phrògraim ùir, Davey D agus Roya Nic Illeathain aig a bheil a’ Ghàidhlig, os cionn a’ phrògraim a bhios air a chraoladh eadar 6f agus 8f Disathairn an t-seachdain seo.

Thuirt Danny Gallagher, An Stiùiriche aig MFR: “Tha mi dhan bheachd gu bheil e uabhasach cudromach a bhith ag obair còmhla ri grunnan chom-pàirtichean airson prògraman sònraichte agus tha MG ALBA air a bhith air leth taiceil a thaobh ar luachan riochdachaidh an lùib a’ phròiseict seo. Tha sinn a’ coimhead air adhart gu mòr ann a bhith a’ stiùireadh an t-slighe air adhart a thaobh nòsan ùra de phrògraman rèidio.”

Thuirt Dòmhnall Caimbeul, Ceannard MG ALBA: “Is e ceum air leth mìorbhaileach a tha seo do chraoladh Gàidhlig. Tha e air a bhith na thoileachas mòr dhuinn sna bliadhnaichean a chaidh seachad a bhith a’ toirt taic do Urras Meadhanan Linne Mhoireibh agus tha e math a bhith a’ faicinn na h-obrach sin a’ leantainn air adhart chun iomairt ùir seo. Bu mhath leinn Rèidio Linne Mhoireibh a mholadh airson a bhith ag obair cho dìcheallach leinn gus a’ chiad phrògram dà-chànanach, Beurla is Gàidhlig de cheòl bho na clàir a lìbhrigeadh do luchd-èisteachd air feadh na Gàidhealtachd, Moireibh is Siorrachd Obar Dheathain.

“Tha MFR a’ craoladh phrògraman rèidio de dh’àrd-chàileachd gu luchd-èisteachd de dh’iomadh seòrsa agus a tha sgaoilte air feadh sgìre fharsaing. Tha an taic don Ghàidhlig tro a leithid seo de dh’iomairt air leth misneachail gu sònraichte leis gum bi am prògram seo a’ ruighinn air luchd-èisteachd òga is dòcha nach cuala a’ Ghàidhlig air an rèidio ron seo.”
