Last weekend the FilmG team were at the Loopallu Festival in Ullapool to launch the music video category of this year’s FilmG competition and showcase films from the first five years of the competition.

Singer-songwriter Dòmhnall Eòghainn MacKinnon was in attendance to promote the music video category in which he won a number of awards for his entry in last year’s FilmG competition.

Since its launch in 2008, FilmG, MG ALBA’s Gaelic Short Film Competition, has encouraged both young people and adults to pick up their cameras and explore their creative talents in conjunction with the use of the Gaelic language. The FilmG music video competition requires entrants to submit a 3-5 minute music video which includes Gaelic lyrics, this can be a completely new song or a reinterpretation of an existing song.

Dòmhnall Eòghainn MacKinnon who performed at Loopallu on the Friday evening, said: “It is a great idea to add music videos to the list of film genres as it provides an opportunity for storytelling across platforms, encouraging collaborations between songwriters, musicians and filmmakers.” He added: “Winning the FilmG Music Video Competition last year has given me the confidence to continue developing my skills as a filmmaker.”

FilmG Project Manager Flòraidh Forrest believes this year’s FilmG theme, ‘Rùn – Love, Intent or Secret’, lends itself well to making Gaelic music videos, she said: “‘Rùn’ is a common theme running through many existing Gaelic songs, you only need to Google the word and you’ll uncover lots of songs that use rùn, usually in reference to love. We hope that many people take inspiration from Dòmhnall Eòghainn and decide to have some fun and try their hand at creating a short music video.”

Flòraidh was also at Loopallu screening the fabulous array of Gaelic films that the project has produced over the years. Speaking from the festival, Flòraidh said: “We have been playing entirely Gaelic films all weekend and they’ve been very well received. We’ve been able to show people the talent we’ve uncovered through FilmG and we hope that this year’s crop is just as impressive.”

FilmG is now open for entries, for more information visit www.filmg.co.uk or contact fios@filmg.co.uk

Aig an deireadh sheachdain a chaidh thàinig sgioba FilmG gu Fèis Loopallu ann an Ulapul airson am farpais bhideo ciùil aca a chuir air bhog agus filmichean a shealltainn bho na còig bliadhna a chaidh bho thòisich an fharpais.

Còmhla riutha bha Dòmhnall Eòghainn MacFhionghain a choisinn cliù dha fhèin ann an roinn no dhà ann am farpais FilmG na bliadhna ’n uiridh.

Bho thòisich an fharpais an toiseach ann an 2008, tha FilmG, Farpais Filmichean Goirid Gàidhlig aig MG ALBA air a bhith a’ misneachadh agus a’ brosnachadh òigridh agus inbhich gus na tàlantan cruthachail aca a thoirt am follais tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig. Tha am farpais bhideo ciùil ag iarraidh air daoine bhideo ciùil le briathran Gàidhlig a chruthachadh a tha eadar trì agus còig a mhionaidean a dh’fhaid. Faodaidh seo a bhith na òran gu tur ùr no na ath-sgrìobhadh de sheann òran.

Thuirt Dòmhnall Eòghainn a bh’ air an àrd-ùrlar e fhèin aig Loopallu oidhche Haoine: “Tha farpais bhideo ciùil FilmG a toirt cothrom sgoinneil do sgrìobhadairean, luchd-ciùil agus filmeadairean. Tha gun do bhuannaich mise an fharpais an uiridh air a h-uile misneachd a thoirt dhomhsa agus air na sgilean agam mar fhilmeadair a leasachadh.”

Tha Manaidsear Phròiseact FilmG Flòraidh Forrest den bheachd gu bheil cuspair na bliadhna sa “Rùn” air leth inntinneach airson bhideo ciùil, thuirt i: “’S e cuspair gu math cumanta a th’ ann an “Rùn” ann an òrain Gàidhlig. Chan eil agad ach “Rùn” a chuir ann an Google agus gheibh thu iomadh òran a tha a’ cleachdadh an fhacail ann an diofar co-theacsan, ach gu sònraichte ann an òrain gaoil. Tha sinne an dòchas gun gabh daoine an aon chothrom ’s a ghabh Dòmhnall Eòghainn agus gum bi spòrs gu leòr aca a’ cruthachadh film ciùil goirid.”

Thadhail Flòraidh fhèin air Loopallu a’ sealltainn cruinneachadh de fhilmichean inntinneach a chaidh a chruthachadh thairis air na bliadhnaichean. A’ bruidhinn bhon fhèis thuirt i: “Tha sinne air a bhith a’ sealltainn fhilmichean Gàidhlig fad an deireadh sheachdain agus tha iad air còrdadh ri daoine gu mòr. Tha na filmichean seo a’ sealltainn an tàlant a thàinig am bàrr tron fharpais agus tha sinn an dòchas gum bi farpais na bliadhna sa a cheart cho soirbheachail.”

Tha FilmG a-nis fosgailte. Tuilleadh fiosrachaidh aig www.filmg.co.uk no fios@filmg.co.uk
