BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR WRITER AS NEW GAELIC DRAMA TAKES TO FESTIVE AIRWAVES

New Year’s Eve 2012 will see a new Gaelic Drama adapted for radio by Catriona Lexy Campbell take to the airwaves for the first time as BBC Radio nan Gàidheal broadcasts “Samhraidhean Dìomhair”.

Catriona Lexy has recently completed a year as Gaelic Associate Artist with the National Theatre of Scotland and is an accomplished writer, director, performer and broadcaster.

“Samhraidhean Dìomhair” is based on Catriona Lexy’s debut novel and is a story of sex and drugs and a teenage boy dead on a beach. Set over three summers between 2002 and 2005, his friends continue their lives whilst carrying a corrosive secret.

Writer and broadcaster Iain Finlay MacLeod, worked with Catriona Lexy to adapt the book for radio.

The cast of performers includes young and emerging talent such as Rachel Kennedy and Uilleam Murray.

Rachel Kennedy (22) is a fluent Gaelic speaker from Lewis and graduated with Honours in Contemporary Screen Acting from the University of the West of Scotland. Rachel’s previous experience has included success in the FilmG Gaelic Shorts competition and a role in the BAFTA nominated film “Eilbhis”.

Uilleam Murray (26) lives in East Kilbride and is a former pupil of Mount Cameron Primary and Claremount High School. Uilleam studied through Gaelic Medium Education and in 2011 completed a MA Television Fiction Writing at Glasgow Caledonian University. He currently works at Glasgow Gaelic School.

The broadcast of “Samhraidhean Dìomhair” on New Year’s Eve will herald a double celebration for Catriona Lexy as she celebrates her birthday on the same date.

“Samhraidhean Dìomhair” was produced by Donald Cameron (BBC Gàidhlig).“Samhraidhean Dìomhair” was funded by MG ALBA and can be heard on BBC Radio nan Gàidheal at 9pm on Monday 31st December.

Thèid dràma ùr rèidio “Samhraidhean Dìomhair”, a chaidh a sgrìobhadh le Catriona Lexy Chaimbeul, a chraoladh air BBC Radio nan Gàidheal airson a’ chiad uair Oidhche Challainn.

Tha Catriona Lexy air crìoch a chur air bliadhna na ‘Gaelic Associate Artist’ le Tèatar Nàiseanta na h-Alba agus tha i ainmeil na sgrìobhadair, stiùiriche agus craoladair.
