A gu U Glaschu

A HUMOROUS LOOK AT EVERYTHING GLASWEGIAN ON BBC ALBA

It is a place synonymous with everything from shipbuilding on the Clyde to Irn-Bru, the rivalries of the beautiful game to the city’s own unique brand of humour and patter.

Now, as the Dear Green Place prepares to take centre stage once again as it counts down to the Commonwealth Games, BBC ALBA takes a nostalgic and humorous look at Scotland’s largest city in A gu U Glaschu.

Presented by Catriona MacPhee, we take a look at the features of the city that shape the lives of Glasgow residents and also speak to Glasgow Gaels who reflect on memories of the Highlander’s Institute and the Mod Shop, as well as the Park Bar, which every Gael visits at one time or another.

A host of personalities belonging to the city including Alex Norton, Sanjeev Kohli, Michelle McManus, Billy Sloan, Chick Young and Dorothy Paul join us in a trip down memory lane alongside Gaels such as Cathy MacDonald and Tony Kearney.

With music playing such an important part in Glasgow life, the programme also includes archival performances from Simple Minds, Lulu, Alastair MacDonald and Calum Kennedy, not to mention the rousing sound of the pipe bands at The Worlds, which the city hosts every year.

And no look at Glasgow would be complete without a reminder of some of the comedy characters that have contributed to the city’s humour, with archive clips from Stanley Baxter, Billy Connolly, Ricki Fulton as well as Rab C Nesbitt, who provides his own unique take on city life.

A gu U Glaschu has been produced by BBC Gàidhlig and will be transmitted on BBC ALBA on Thursday 10th July at 9.00pm and repeated on Saturday 12th July at 9.00pm.

Tha Catrìona Nic a’ Phì gar toirt air chuairt àbhachdach tro Ghlaschu bho Abhainn Chluaidh le eachdraidh ceangailte ri malairt agus a bhith a’ togail bhàtaichean, gu na Barras agus daoine le dòigh-labhairt air leth, turas sìos na h-aibhne air a’ Waverely agus a’ crìochnachadh le botal Irn-Bru agus iasg is sliseagan!

Le ceòl bho riamh air a bhith na phàirt de bheatha muinntir Ghlaschu, chithear criomagan às an tasglann bho leithid Simple Minds, Lulu, Alasdair McDonald agus Calum Ceanadach, cuide ri ceòl na pìoba bho Na Worlds.

Bidh Gàidheil Ghlaschu a’ cuimhneachadh air Aitreabh nan Gàidheal agus Bùth a’ Mhòid, agus air Taigh-òsta na Pàirce air am bi na Gàidheil tric a’ tadhal.

Am measg na bhios a’ toirt am beachdan seachad air a’ bhaile far an deach an togail, bidh Alex Norton, Sanjeev Kohli, Michelle McManus, Billy Sloan, Chick Young agus Dorothy Paul agus Gàidheil le buntanas ris a’ bhaile mar Cathy NicDhòmhnaill agus Tony Kearney. Chithear cuideachd criomagan às an tasglann bho leithid Stanley Baxter, Billy Connolly, Ricky Fulton agus Rab C Nesbitt.
