Camanachd beò - Skye v Glen Urquhart

BBC ALBA - Disathairne 16 Lùnastal aig 4.00f (BEÒ)

Live coverage of the Camanachd Cup semi-finals continues this weekend as BBC ALBA screens the eagerly anticipated clash between Skye and Glen Urquhart.

Coverage of the match from An Aird, Fort William, starts at 4.00pm and will be presented by Derek MacKay, who will also provide the commentary. Analysis will be provided by Fraser MacKenzie.

Saturday’s match will see Skye and Glen Urquhart face each other for the right to meet Kingussie in the final after their semi-final penalty shoot-out win over Fort William last weekend.

Skye reached the last four of the competition following wins over Glenorchy and Bute in rounds one and two respectively. Their round three triumph over Kilmallie in July secured their semi-final spot, with a Jordan Murchison hattrick helping Skye towards a 4-1 win in that match and giving them the chance to reach the final for the first time since 1990 when they lifted the trophy.

Glen Urquhart has reached the Camanachd Cup final once before when they finished runners-up in 1988 following a 4-2 defeat to Kingussie. They can book a repeat of that fixture if they win this semi-final clash, a stage they reached thanks a 5-3 away win over Lochaber in round two and a 3-1 home win over Inveraray in round three.

As well as the action on the pitch, we look back to that famous day in 1990 when Skye won the Camanachd Cup for the first and only time, defeating the Badenoch giants Newtonmore 4-1and sparking jubilant celebrations in the process. We speak with winning manager Ross Cowie, whose inspirational team talk at half-time fired the Islanders to victory. Man of the match Willie MacRae reflects on the relaxed build up and his reaction to seeing 5,000 supporters appearing at An Aird. The club were relegated last season and a new management team, led by John “Spod” MacLeod are attempting to reinvigorate the club.

Shinty coverage on BBC ALBA is produced by mneTV, with the channel providing a premier sports package that also covers action from the Scottish Professional Football League, Petrofac Training Cup and live PRO12 league rugby.

BBC ALBA is a partnership service between MG ALBA and BBC Scotland to deliver high quality, distinctive home-produced programming.
