NEW SIX PART COMEDY - TORCUIL'S GUIDE TO BEING A GAEL – ON BBC ALBA THIS FESTIVE PERIOD

Star of the acclaimed BBC ALBA comedy Dà là san Dàmhair - Torcuil Lamont - is back with his very own series.

Produced by Michael Hines of The Woven Thread, Torcuil's Guide to Being a Gael - a new six part BBC ALBA comedy - examines what it is to be a Gael in the 21st Century.

In each short episode, Torcuil, played by Tony Kearney, looks at crucial areas of Gaelic culture - language, food, music, drink, weather, and clothing - and gives us his inimitable opinion on how to be the perfect Gael.

In the first programme, Torcuil travels to his alma mater, Sabhal Mor Ostaig, to interview Prinicpal Boyd Robertson and a German student learning Gaelic, before heading to Glasgow to get Mod tips from language judge Beathag Mhoireasdan.

In episode two, music is the focus and it’s off to Oban to the Skipinnish Ceilidh House for Torcuil as he meets up with Angus MacPhail of Skipinnish and tries his hand at teachi

However, Torcuil isn't so sure of Gaelic delicacies in programme three as he investigates food. He tries out a black pudding taste off with renowned chef Guy Cowan, and then interviews a chef who has developed a new fusion style of cooking, from the prawn scone to guga sorbet. Will Torcuil dare to taste?

Why are the Gaels obessed with the weather? That's Torcuil's main question in the fourth instalment as he interviews STV weather expert Sean Batty and the BBC's Kirsteen MacDonald before having a 'go' on the weather map himself.

Is there such a thing as Gaelic style? Torcuil talks clothing in the penultimate programme to Donna MacLeod, designer to the stars on television. He also meets Calumina McColl, a very unusual fashion designer whose inspiration is all natural!

Finally, its unfamiliar territory in the concluding episode as Torcuil, a non drinker, meets a professor of whisky who believes the taste of the whisky mimics the people who make it. Torcuil also catches up with Michelle McManus and asks what makes the craic such an important thing in Gaelic life.

Torcuil's Guide to Being a Gael, produced by The Woven Thread for BBC ALBA, starts on Wednesday 24 December and runs for six episodes throughout the festive period.

Gach seachdain coinnichidh e ri eòlaichean nan cuspairean, leithid Boyd MacDhonnchaidh mu chànan agus Aonghas MacPhàil, Skipinnish mu chèilidhean.

Bidh caractar annasach no dhà eile air an t-slighe cuideachd, leithid Ollamh an Uisge-bheatha, còcaire le beachdan gu math ùr-nòs, seinneadair cliùiteach bho na Mòdan agus Gearmailteach a tha ag iarraidh Gàidhlig ionnsachadh.
